Two days in a row my friends. WHAT NOW!? **chest bump**

Yesterday, I talked about my love of eastern european sounds... you know horns and percussion, blah blah blah. Today, I wanted to talk about an acoustic sound that is another one that I just can't get enough of - José Gonzalez.

His second album is called In Our Nature and it was released in late September. This dude knows how to play the guitar - his pronunciation is a little fucked - he slurs everything he says and I'm already not that great at figuring out lyrics on my own. I was looking up lyrics to the song Teardrop the other day, which by the way is an old Massive Attack song, and I was WAY the fuck off on the lyrics I thought he was singing. Whatever. This album is amazing.

So, apparently José wants to put out a series of music videos about "the sins of humanity." Here's the second in the series - the video for Teardrop. Enmuthafuckinjoy.

No worries! I'm back from hiatus.

I was myspacin', friendsterin' and facebookin' it when it occurred to me - I SHOULD BE BLOGGIN' instead. So I've decided that the first thing I want to discuss is the plethora of great new music that I've been listing to. Hopefully some of you share my taste in music - perhaps some of you don't. But! It's all good. I think if you listen to some of these tunes, regardless of what music you usually listen to, you'll find that you like some, IF not all of it!

This is Beirut's second album. You can read the more detailed account of Beirut's musical history elsewhere, because what I really want to talk about is the music itself. Zack Condon, the lead singer, has this Eastern European-inspired sound - with horns and percussions that seem to be some soundtrack from some old war movie. I can't get enough. The new iPod Nano is hot. But one Douglasville man said his old Nano got even hotter -- hot enough to burst into flames. "So I look down and I see flames coming up to my chest," said Danny Williams. Williams said the burn hole from the pocket of his pants marks the spot of his 15 seconds of flame. He said he had an iPod Nano and an glossy piece of paper in his pocket. He believes the paper shielded him from being burned. "I'm still kind of freaked out that after only a year and a half my iPod caught fire in my pocket," said Williams. The iPod uses a lithium ion battery -- the same type of battery under recall for setting laptops on fire. Williams said the fact is iPod Nano burst into flames while he was at work was bad enough, where he works could have been another issue. He works at a kiosk in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. "If TSA had come by and seen me smoking, they could have honestly thought I was a terrorist," said Williams.

I, like Xine and Cheray, have been avoiding the blog like the two $40 parking tickets I've been ignoring in my car. The only difference is that I've avoided that parking tickets for more than 21 days, which means they're probably worth a little more now. I wish my bank account did shit like that... you know, if you promise not to touch the money, in 21 days, it would double. Or sex... you know, if you abstain for 21 days, you'll have twice the amount sex.

I guess it's obvious that I'm broke and haven't had sex in a while.

I've been treating the blog like that credit card bill you don't want to open because you spent too much money last month and you're pretty sure it's overdue so if you leave it alone, it might just go away. I know I haven't been posting a lot and I thought that maybe if I just stayed away, nobody would notice and then I could just come back when my life is less busy and pick up where I left off. After receiving angry phone calls and emails about how everyone is bored at work, I realize that much like avoiding credit card bills, ignoring the blog is a very bad idea.

So to restart things, I'm posting this commercial that I've been obsessed with for about a month now. It's bizarrely sexy and almost completely irrelevant to what it's advertising. Behold, Korean Air's obscure approach to advertising that instantly makes me want to jump on a plane to Korea where I will be showered with champagne (poolside?), perfume and sexy blue shoes by some strangely-moving yet totally adorable Korean girl with a really, really sleek updo. ...because apparently that's what Korean Air is made of...

Sometimes people make this blogging hobby really easy...like 42 year-old Mark Hoousendove from New York. Mark dropped off friends to visit an inmate at Sing Sing prison on Sunday. Assumedly after dropping off his friends, Mark was bored and realized he had no hair so he proceeded to drive to the local pharmacy to steal Rogaine. A nearby officer chased the bald Rogaine thief down the street and was able to catch him. Hoousendove was jailed in lieu of $3,000 bail and is due in court today. Rogaine costs about $50. Hotz posted on his blog that he traded his modified iPhone for "a sweet Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB iPhones." "This has been a great end to a great summer," Hotz wrote. Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, has stepped down from his role in Mitt Romney's presidential campaign after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge stemming from his arrest at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Craig was apprehended June 11 by a plainclothes police officer investigating complaints of lewd behavior in an airport men's room. The arresting officer noted: “At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. Yone Minagawa, of Japan, kicked it on Monday at the age of 114 leaving Edna Parker, 114, of Shelbyville, Indiana to take over the reign as world's oldest person. At just 5 feet tall and 70 pounds, Parker is still able to walk. She is in good health and enjoys reciting poetry at the Heritage House Convalescent Center where she lives. God bless her. Isn't she the cutest thing?!?!

She was born on April 20, 1893. Weren't they still discovering continents back then? She grew up on a farm before becoming a teacher. She taught in a two-room school in Smithland for several years until she wed her childhood sweetheart and next-door neighbor, Earl Parker, in 1911.The same year, she graduated from Franklin College with a degree in education. But as was the tradition of that era, her teaching career ended with her marriage. She began the arduous life of a farm wife, preparing meals for as many as 12 men who worked on her husband's farm. Parker had two sons, both of whom she has outlived. Sadly, her husband died in 1938.

I called my 87 year old grandmother to tell her about this story and she said "She still walks?!? Amazing. But what's more amazing is the change she's been able to see in society." Reflective little one, isn't she? Anyway, just to put this into context - There were only 22 Presidents before she Edna born. Grover Cleveland took office for the second time the year she was born. When she was 15, they allowed her to share a room with her then-14-year-old boyfriend, Aaron Carter, at Loews in Miami Beach. Almeida relates, "They knew Lindsay was sleeping in Aaron's room. But they seemed happy she had chosen somebody who could benefit her singing career. By age 18, Lindsay had moved on to harder substances. Almeida recalls walking in on her and another celebrity in a closet at a club one night as they sniffed white powder. The ex-bodyguard also claims Lindsay cried out for help for years by cutting herself and threatening suicide.

Honestly, like 45 seconds before her arrest, she opened up about her first rehab stint, Calum Best (some model dude), caretakers and idols in Elle magazine's September issue. The interview took place 36 hours before her arrest in May on suspicion of driving under the influence.

After that arrest, Lohan, who turned 21 on July 2, entered Malibu's Promises rehab center, which she left July 13 after completing a 45-day program. Elton John on Shutting Down the Internet In The Name of Music

Elton John has some advice on how to deal with what he sees as a dearth of good music today: shut down the internet!

"The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff. Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision. It’s just a means to an end. We’re talking about things that are going to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that’s not going to happen with people blogging on the internet. I mean, get out there — communicate. Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet. Let’s get out in the streets and march and protest instead of sitting at home and blogging. I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut down the whole internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span. There’s too much technology available. I’m sure, as far as music goes, it would be much more interesting than it is today. In the early Seventies there were at least ten albums released every week that were fantastic. Now you’re lucky to find ten albums a year of that quality. And there are more albums released each week now than there were then."

Can anyone reading this post even think of one person that's purchased an Elton John album in the last five years??

“A Concert For Virginia Tech.”

Other artists who will give back in remembrance of the horrific school shooting include the Dave Matthews Band, Phil Vassar and Nas.
