Jessica Simpson's mother gave her daughter a verbal running-jump sidekick after her "embarrassing" rendition of "9 to 5" in front of Dolly Parton and President Bush at the Kennedy Center Honors last weekend, telling her that she should get out of the business if she doesn't want to put in the work.
Tina Simpson was furious with Jess after she completely f'ed up the lyrics, stood with her hand on her stomach, and then awkwardly hurried off saying, "Dolly, that made me so nervous!" Tina told her daughter that the performance was "embarrassing" and "unprofessional," and mom was even more pissed off that Jessica had missed a dress rehearsal and hadn't learned lyrics to the song. Jessica was obviously reading from the cards during her performance. **At least she wasn't lip synching... ASHLEE**
Incidentally, Jessica's dad, Joe, wasn't all that pissed off, saying that he didn't feel there was any need to reshoot the performance, calling it "cute." But show producers begged Joe to have Jessica do it again, without anyone in the audience. "We almost cut her out of the show," says a source from CBS.
Dolly I-Never-Age-and-Have-A-Killer-Rack Parton says she has no hard feelings.
